Overview

"First Christian Church Student Ministry exists to create a culture where students are making a 180-degree turn from the confusion and clamor of the world to the clarity and contentment of a relationship with Jesus that compels them to Live On Purpose."

We are working to create a healthy and safe environment where students, both Christian and non-Christian, will experience life change by daily making a 180-degree turn from sin so they will Live On Purpose.

We have worked to put feet on this mission statement at 180, our weekly large group meeting. We meet every Wednesday from 6:45 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. The basic format includes games/mixers, a time of worship where we sing, pray, and read scripture, a short message, and a small-group discussion time.

FCCSM has been working to revitalize the Youth House, which we now call Cafe 180. We painted 5 upstairs rooms the colors of the 5 Greene County high schools and are decorating them with their respective paraphernalia. The basement has been repainted and is housing our games room. We have come a long way and the house is really taking shape nicely! At our first event, Overtime, which is held after every home Greeneville High School football and many basketball games, over 65 students came to Cafe 180! Our goal for Cafe 180 is to develop it into an outreach-oriented entry-point where students can be infused into the life of the church.

We have what we call an "Only Your Bible" Study on Sunday nights from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. There is no third-party curriculum because we are letting the story of redemption that is interlaced throughout the Bible set our agenda. We are going through the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. Our agenda is to teach the students how to think as a Christian, study the Word on their own and gain knowledge of the content of God's revelation to us.

In addition to these ongoing ministries, we participate in special activities like mission trips, service projects, lock-ins, retreats, student conventions, Ministry Impact Teams, a Super Bowl outreach party, Chick Flick Night for the gals and Hotcakes & Hoops for the guys, a yearly ski trip, a canoeing trip, etc. These are meant to be the types of activities that supplement our regular ministries in ways that create special memories and help provide a laboratory for developing a faith that expresses itself in practical ways.

Please pray with us as we endeavor to see God make these types of changes in our ministry and let us know if you have interest in helping!
